Do you move frequently because you don’t have a permanent home?

Have you lost your house due to family crisis, unemployment, eviction or financial issues?

The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law passed to help people experiencing homelessness.  This law protects the rights of homeless children and youth to attend school.
Are you living in any of the following situations?

  • Temporarily sharing housing with another family due to loss of housing, unemployment or similar reason
  • In a motel or hotel due to a lack of adequate accommodations
  • In a car, park, campground, public space, abandoned building or substandard housing
  • In an emergency or transitional shelter

Is the student?

  • Awaiting Foster Care placement (i.e. emergency shelter while awaiting placement)
  • An Unaccompanied Youth not in the physical custody of a parent/guardian

If you feel that you may be eligible under the McKinney-Vento Act, please complete the Support Programs Form at your child’s school office.  Homeless eligibility is determined solely by the District Homeless Liaison on a case-by-case basis.

The Dysart Unified School District will ensure that every homeless student shall have equal access to the same free and appropriate opportunities as students who are not homeless.
