Safe Schools
In 2008 the District applied for and was awarded $6 million by the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Justice. Safe Schools/Healthy Students grant funding provides resources for twenty of the District’s schools over a period of four years, through school year 2011-2012. We strive to promote safe and healthy learning environments because, as we all know, violence and substance abuse in schools compromise the educational climate and endanger teachers and students. Through the collaborative federal grant funding, we work together to provide comprehensive educational, mental health, social, law-related, and juvenile justice services.

Truancy
CUTS/CUTS Lite -When a student has five or more unexcused absences or 18 excessive absences (excused OR unexcused), the student can be cited to the CUTS Program through the Juvenile Court. If the student is cited, an attendance hearing will be held with representatives from Dysart Unified School District and the Juvenile Court. Consequences at the hearing may include the following: required attendance of the parent and the child at an education class (to be held on Saturdays), work hours assigned to the child, counseling, etc. The parent will be assessed a $50 Diversion Fee. Failure to complete these consequences may result in suspension of your child’s driver’s license, or inability to get a driver’s license until their 18th birthday and/or formal court proceedings. If convicted in a formal court proceeding, it is a Class 3 misdemeanor punishable by jail time and/or fine.
