The DUSD Prevention Department is dedicated to enhancing student achievement by implementing a comprehensive counseling program and providing prevention and intervention services for students and their families.  K- 12 counselors provide prevention programs focused on counseling standards in three domains; academic, personal/social and career.  Programs for students are delivered through classroom lessons, student support groups and individual counseling.  Interventions are available for students to help with poor attendance, problems with peer and adult relationships, violence, substance abuse, health and mental health needs. The prevention department has formed a strong collaboration with community agencies (social services and mental health), law enforcement, fire department, county public health, juvenile probation and is able to assist parents, students and staff in providing referral services and addressing student and family needs.
