Dysart Unified School District has four schools that have been identified by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) as being in School Improvement.: El Mirage, Surprise and Thompson Ranch Elementary schools and Valley Vista High School. Identified schools become eligible for additional support from the district and state as they work to improve teaching and learning, attendance, graduation, and participation in testing.
Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), the parents of children in these schools have the following options:
- Remaining in the school and actively participating in the school improvement process
- Seeking enrollment at a School Choice or request tutoring (tutoring is offered at El Mirage and Surprise Elementary schools only)
While all parents will have the opportunity to indicate whether they want their children transported to another school, there is no guarantee that all children will be able to attend other schools unless your child is currently enrolled in a school of choice. Students who have low test scores and low income will have priority.
