Dysart accepts last minute tax credit donations
DYSART SCHOOLS — The Dysart Unified School District is making it simple for the community to make a last minute school tax credit contribution before the December 31 deadline.
For the third consecutive year, the district will hold its Tax Credit Drive-thru from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31 in the parking lot of the Dysart Education Center, 15802 N. Parkview Pl., just west of the Surprise Stadium. The event allows community members to drive up, make a donation and receive a receipt, all without getting out of their car.
The tax credit, allowed by Arizona Revised Statute 43-1089.01, allows married couples filing jointly a tax credit of up to $400 and individual taxpayers a tax credit of up to $200 when they contribute to extracurricular activities in public schools. A tax credit is different from a deduction because it is a full refund of a taxpayer’s money, provided a liability at least equal to that of the donation exists. Contributions are donated directly to Dysart schools and community members making a school tax credit donation do not have to have a child in a Dysart school to benefit from the law.
Dysart will also continue to accept donations for the 2008 tax year by mail, as long as the envelope is postmarked by December 31, 2008. Donations can also be made in person at all Dysart schools and the Dysart Education Center through December 19. A receipt will be mailed out after the donation is processed. Tax credit forms can be found online at www.dysart.org. For more information call Dysart’s Community Education Department at 623.876.7064 or 623.876.7079.
