CODE OF CONDUCT
As your professional school transportation provider, we want to make sure your child’s trips to and from school are as enjoyable as possible. We all play a role in achieving this goal. In order to get your child to school safe, on-time, and ready to learn, it’s important that he or she understands the school bus and bus stop safety rules listed below. Please discuss the rules with your child prior to the start of school.
School Bus Code of Conduct
- Stay in your seat.
- Keep the noise level down.
- Keep head, hands, and feet inside the bus.
- Don’t throw things inside the bus or out the windows.
- No eating or drinking on the bus.
Keep the bus clean.
- No smoking or tobacco on the bus.
- No profanity on the bus.
- Don’t be destructive.
- Be courteous.
- Cooperate with the driver.
- Stay out of the “danger zone” (anywhere within 10 feet of the bus).
- Don’t ever try to get anything you left on the bus after you have already gotten off. We’ll do our best to ensure personal property is returned.
- Don’t try to pick up anything dropped underneath the bus—things can be replaced, children can’t.
- Always follow the driver’s directions about how to cross the street.
- Be alert to traffic, look both ways, and always walk in front of the bus.
Bus Stop Code of Conduct
- Be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. If there are no children waiting at the bus stop when the bus arrives, the driver will stop, look, and depart. Our buses run to multiple schools; a driver cannot wait for a child who is late.
- Respect private property.
- While at the bus stop, wait quietly in a safe place well away from the road. Do not run and play while waiting for the bus to arrive.
- Smoking is not permitted at the bus stop.
- Do not litter.
- When the bus approaches, stand at least three steps (six feet) away from the curb, and line up away from the street without crowding or pushing.
Students failing to obey the posted school bus code of conduct will be subject to progressive discipline by the driver and school. The driver will remind the student of the infraction and ask for the student to obey the rules. If the student refuses to obey the rules the driver will either move the student to another seat in the bus and/or write the student a referral. Student discipline generated by a referral is handled by school administration.
We offer school bus transportation to all qualified students and expect all passengers to know and honor the bus conduct rules. Violations to the bus rules can put others into unsafe conditions. Please read the bus conduct rules so you will understand what is and is not allowed on the school bus. Students choosing not to obey these rules may be denied further transportation services. Students being transported are under the direction of the school bus driver.
