DHS Wrestling Sectionals & State Results
News from Wrestling Sectionals 3/13/2021
by Coach Bloom

I am so proud of our wrestlers and coaches for all the long hours of preparation they have put in during this unconventional season. So many changes from week to week it seemed and then having to battle an opponent with a mask was..well..lets just say memorable and one for the books.

Not to dismiss those that did not participate this year for understandable reasons, I would however congratulate "The 8" for their accomplishments and such great memories throughout a season of both team and personal growth. Although, not all were able to move on to the State Championships, we coaches witnessed a true bond formed as teammates.

The following wrestlers will be representing Dysart High School at the  Div 2 State Championships this coming Friday:

Gage Fuentes 120 2nd Place
Corbin Mecham 132 3rd Place
James Massey 152 4th Place
Mauricio Valles 220 -Section Champion
Julian Laborin 285 2nd Place

Others who were one  close victory from placing were:
Jeremy Olivarria 106
Tyler Mitchell  145
Keyton Poundstone 170

It has been a great show out today. I'm thankful for all the support from the Admin and Staff at Dysart High School and all my coaches who have been running from mat to mat coaching these kids up. Those that didn't quite make it to State were still very close and we're very proud of every one of them.

News from Wrestling State Tournament 3/19/2021
by Coach Bloom

During a most unconventional wrestling season where at one point wrestlers had to wear masks during a match, 5 DHS wrestlers competed at the AIA Division 2 Championships over the weekend.  Usually a 2 day event, the championships were held at Poston Butte High School and condensed into 13 hours of wrestling.  All of our guys competed at their peak level and I could not be more proud of them and how they represented our team, school, and community.  They all came within 1 match of competing for a medal which says a lot for the state tournament.
The following wrestlers competed at State:
120 Gage Fuentes (Sophomore)
132 Corbin Mecham (Senior)
152 James Massey (Junior)
220 Mauricio Valles (Senior)
285 Julian Laborin ( Sophomore )

Julian Laborin was able to battle his way into a finals match and brought home a 6th place medal for the Heavyweight  Class and will now be added to a long list of state placers here at Dysart High School.
Thank you all for your support throughout the season.  It has truly been a time of long suffering and personal growth for us all.
