Confidentiality

Due to HIPAA/FERPA laws, strict confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

Discuss medical issues with the parent/ legal guardian only.

When leaving phone messages, only leave your name and Health Office phone number and ask parent/legal guardian to return your call.

When unable to reach parent/guardian contacts (household contacts); you may call the non household contacts and request for alternative contact phone numbers, or have the contact call the parent/guardian themselves.

You may explain to the non household contact that it is not an emergency (if it is not) but that you need to speak to the parent/guardian directly. If the situation is an emergency, provide as much information as needed to locate the parents/guardians.

You should not share health information with the non household contact unless approved by the parent/guardian.
