Jill Hoppe, PrincipalA Message from the Principal

May, 2020

Dear Cougar Families,

I would like to begin May’s principal's message with a sincere thank you to the Canyon Ridge family for your patience, support, and flexibility during the school closure. Canyon Ridge is extraordinary because the staff, families, and community members have a shared efficacy to do what is best for students. Despite our current reality, we have a duty to teach our students. We are proud of the work accomplished to support students both emotionally and academically. We will end this last month of the school year with a focus on instruction to ensure students have mastered their grade level priority standards and prepare them for the 2020-2021 school year.

Students have developed strong leadership skills throughout the year. During the second semester we focused on Habits 5-8 and teachers will continue to review the Habits the remaining weeks of school. Please take time to review the Habit and keep them alive during the summer months.

Habit 5:  Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood: We listen to other people’s ideas and feelings and try to see things from their viewpoints.  Listening to others without interrupting is an important part of this habit. We are confident in voicing ideas but also respect the ideas of others.

Habit 6: Synergize: We value other people’s strengths and learn from them.  Getting along well with others, even people who are different than us encourages us to grow stronger.  Synergizing means we work well in groups by seeking out other people’s ideas to solve problems. By teaming with others, we can create better solutions than any one of us alone.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw: We take care of our bodies by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. This habit encourages us to spend time with family and friends. Learning happens in many ways and a variety of places, not just at school. We take time to find meaningful ways to help others.

Habit 8: Find Your Voice: The eighth habit leader has the mindset and the skill set to constantly look for the potential in people. Finding your voice means that we are so confident in ourselves we are not worried or envious when others do great things or receive praise. When we surround ourselves with greatness we all learn, grow and are better today than yesterday.

We will send out information about the end of year check out so that students can retrieve any personal items left at school, pick up paperwork, and drop off technology. We will honor our 8th grade students on May 20, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. with a car parade in front of the school. We welcome you to come out to wave our students farewell. We wish our 8th graders the very best in their high school career.

As always, thank you all so much for your support and focus on providing an extraordinary learning experience for all learners, YES!
