Math: Tier 2 Instruction

During Tier 2 instruction the teacher works with a small group of students outside of core instruction time (whole group). Teachers are able to determine specific skills or standards students need additional help with based on the formative assessment data they collect throughout the core instruction lesson time.

The intention of the videos below is to provide examples of how instruction can look at various levels.  Teachers are encouraged to adapt strategies seen in the videos to fit the needs of their own classroom.

11th Grade Example

  • How does the teacher keep all students challenged in their learning?
  • How does the teacher facilitate both small group and whole group simultaneously?
  • What types of questions does the teacher ask to promote small group learning?
