Dear Families of Sunset Hills,

It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year! As you may have seen, the state came out with the letter grade labels according to the 2019 AzMERIT data. I am thrilled to share that Sunset Hills earned a letter grade of an A! Thank you to our incredible staff, students and families for all of your hard work and support!  We are proud of our students and their continuous growth at Sunset Hills!

Our teachers continue to use data to plan instruction that aligns with grade level standards and the needs of each student. They set academic goals with students and monitor their progress toward mastery of standards. We appreciate the school to home connection. We look forward to working together with our families to support our students in their success!

Arts Signature Program:
The Steering Committee is making excellent progress in setting the stage for our transition into an Arts Signature Program! Teachers and parents had the opportunity to see the vision for a Performing Arts school fully realized with a visit to the Arizona School for the Arts downtown. This past month’s meeting, we reflected on what they are doing and the implications for Sunset Hills’ future. It is a very exciting time, as we move into the goal-setting phase of our strategic planning process. Please visit our Arts Signature Program website for more information!

Tax Credit Donations:
All of our amazing after-school Arts and Enrichment Programs rely on our community’s financial support to operate. In order for these programs to continue, we need your help! One way of doing this is by directing up to $400 of your state taxes directly to our school programs through the School Tax Credit program. Find more information at tax credit or inquire with our Front Office Staff.

Office and School Hours: Our office hours are 7:15 a.m.-3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The office phone number is (623) 523-8700. Our amazing office staff is here to answer your questions, take suggestions and offer assistance.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO):  Please be sure to join SHES PTO this year.  Membership is open to everybody - students, parents, teachers and the community.  They will have information tables set up during Meet the Teacher Night. PTO has an exciting calendar of events planned this year!

Student Supervision:
Gates will open at 8:00 a.m. and students will report directly to the classrooms to begin their day.  To promote student safety, students should not arrive at school before 8:00 a.m. unless they are going to eat breakfast.  Students eating breakfast should not arrive before 7:45 a.m. There is no adult supervision outside before 8:00 a.m. Our district’s Community Education Department offers on-site services via the “Den Club” to accommodate your before or after school care needs.  Please call (623) 876-7918 for more information. Thank you for your cooperation with student arrival times.
Parent Communication:
During the school year you will receive a monthly school newsletter.  In addition, you will receive a weekly email from your child’s teacher informing you of the amazing things your child is learning and important school reminders. Teachers will also be updating their web pages with important information.  Please be sure to give your homeroom teacher your email address at Meet the Teacher Night so we can better communicate with you throughout the school year. Also remember to visit the Sunset Hills website for additional beginning of the school year information. For up to date grades, don’t forget to sign-up for the Dysart Parent Portal which gives you access to see your child’s grades including assignments and assessments given in the classroom. Sign-up at Parent Portal or download the application.

Thank you for your continued support.
