In response to the progressive needs of the community, the Dysart Unified School District will propose the reorganization of schools and boundaries in an effort to ensure students continue to receive the best educational experience.

The district is committed to providing opportunities for students to learn based on their needs.  Dysart has received input from parents and community members that a traditional approach is valued.  Therefore, the first proposed step is to close Parkview Elementary School and redesign and reopen the building to house a new traditional school.  If approved by the Governing Board, this new, non-boundary school will have a separate enrollment application process for the 2019-2020 school year that will begin on January 9, 2019 and close on January 25.  Students will be selected for enrollment based on past grades, attendance, and discipline records. The public is invited to the November 14, 2018 Governing Board meeting to hear information on these proposed changes.  The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at 15802 N Parkview Place, Surprise, AZ 85374.

The second proposal is to reopen the school in the Asante Community located at 23251 N 166th Dr, Surprise, AZ 85387.  The area is expected to grow substantially in the coming years and reopening the school will best meet the needs of the community by providing a school in close proximity to the surrounding neighborhoods.  If approved by the Governing Board, the school will serve students in preschool through 8th grade beginning in August, 2019. As a result of this proposed reopening, those students within the neighborhoods of Asante and the adjacent communities who currently attend Kingswood and Parkview Elementary Schools would be assigned to the new school boundaries.  The Sundown Mountain Alternative Education Program currently occupying the building is proposed to be relocated to a district facility near El Mirage Elementary School.

As part of the reopening and redesigning of schools, a boundary committee will examine attendance area adjustments in the Asante area, Kingswood Elementary School, Parkview Elementary School, and West Point Elementary School.  Additionally, the committee will examine the boundaries of Luke Elementary School, Mountain View School, and Rancho Gabriela Elementary School in order to best meet the needs of the community.  A public forum will be held before the November 28, 2018 Governing Board meeting where the boundary committee will present recommended changes to receive public input.  The meeting will be held in the Dysart Governing Board Room from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 15802 N Parkview Place, Surprise, AZ 85374.

Open enrollment for the Dysart District will begin on December 13th and close on January 25, 2019.  The new, proposed traditional school will have a separate enrollment application process for the 2019-2020 school year that will begin on January 9, 2019 and close on January 25.

The Dysart Unified School District believes in providing opportunities for every student with a focus on their individual needs.  The proposed reorganization aligns with those goals as Dysart continues to adapt to our changing community. The district believes in being transparent with this process and is committed to informing the community and impacted stakeholders.  Regular updates regarding the process will be available at www.dysart.org.
