Social Workers

Social Worker GraphicSocial Workers within Dysart Unified School District will provide social and emotional learning (SEL) skills, provide resources for students, peers, families, and community; advocate for students and families; and will assist students with establishing healthy relationship skills. Social workers will utilize whole group instruction, small group instruction, and provide individual support to students in a prevention and intervention manner. Social workers will work collaboratively with the school to establish an environment that promotes restorative practices and utilizes growth mindset for students and staff. 










 
Self Awareness >>

Definition: Ability to recognize one’s own emotions, thoughts, and values, and how they influence behavior; ability to assess one’s own strengths and limitations, with a grounded sense of confidence, optimism, and a “growth mindset.”

Student Responsibilities: Recognize own emotions, thoughts, and values in accordance with behavior; understand and recognize strengths; embody self-confidence and self-efficacy;  be willing to grow with positive input from classroom and teacher.

School Responsibilities: Model appropriate behavior and ability to recognize own emotions, thoughts, and values; coach students and staff in the importance of self-awareness around campus.

Family/Community Responsibilities: Provide social and emotional learning (SEL) links; provide community resources to families and communities regarding self-awareness and benefits to becoming more self-aware.

 

 

Social Awareness >>

Definition: Ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds and cultures; ability to understand social and ethical norms for behavior and to recognize family, school and community resources and supports. 

Student Responsibilities: Be aware of surroundings and utilize empathy with peers and adults from all backgrounds and cultures; recognize and understand social and ethical norms for behavior; utilize resources and supports. 

School Responsibilities: Provide training on cultural, societal, emotional, economic, and familial health. 

Family/Community Responsibilities: Provide community education; provide assistance for families in accessing and utilizing resources. 

 

Self Management >>

Definition: The ability to successfully regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations to effectively manage stress, controlling impulses and motivating oneself; the ability to set and work toward personal and academic goals. 

Student Responsibilities: Student will regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors as well as manage stress in an age appropriate manner; will be self-motivated and be able to control impulse.; will set and work toward personal and academic goals.

School Responsibilities: School will identify biases within the structure of the academic setting;  will model appropriate behavior and utilize emotion management, regulate thoughts and behaviors as well as manage stress. 

Family/Community Responsibilities: Provide resources to assist with regulating emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations to effectively manage stress; provide resources for families and communities to adequately support the community. 

 

Responsible Decisions >>

Definition: Ability to make constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions based on ethical standards, safety concerns, and social norms; the realistic evaluation of consequences of various actions, and a consideration of the wellbeing of self and others.

Student Responsibilities: Identify issues and analyze the situation in order to effectively solve the problem; create and maintain a safe environment for peers; evaluate and reflect on consequences of actions while taking into account the wellbeing of self and others. 

School Responsibilities: Reinforce school expectations; support students in decision making; and empower students to make healthy, appropriate choices. 

Family/Community Responsibilities: Follow up on referrals made for families in the community. 

 

Relationship Skills >>

Definition: Ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups; the ability to communicate clearly listen effectively, cooperate with others, resist inappropriate social pressure, negotiate conflict constructively, and seek and offer help when needed.  

Student Responsibilities: Student will be able to establish and maintain relationships with diverse individuals; effectively communicate and participate in social engagement. 

School Responsibilities: Promote respect and responsibility among students and peers.

Family/Community Responsibilities: Provide education to parents and community partners.
