Arts Academy Signature Program

Students performing DanceOne of the many great things about West Point is our signature program, the Arts Academy. Our amazing fine arts programs include student band and orchestra, dance programs, 2d and 3d fine arts, choir, piano keyboarding and theater. Students also participate in creative courses such as stop motion animation, coding, broadcasting and app building.  Our students gain authentic learning experiences by participating in showcases, clubs, performances, exhibits, field trips, and personal choice projects.

At the end of each year, our culminating activity brings all students together to collaborate on a musical theater production. We are currently working on a collaboration with students to present Beauty and the Beast, a Disney Jr. Broadway musical which will be at the Valley Vista High School Performing Arts Center. Our vision at West Point is to inspire unique learners and leaders.

Engaging with art is essential to the human experience. Almost as soon as motor skills are developed, children communicate through artistic expression. Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork. A 2005 report by the Rand Corporation about the visual arts argues that the intrinsic pleasures and stimulation of the art experience do more than sweeten an individual's life -- according to the report, they "can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing," creating the foundation to forge social bonds and community cohesion. And strong arts programming in schools helps close a gap that has left many a child behind.
