Ashton Ranch Groups and Activities 

Student Council

Advisors:  Chuck Fischer, Alicia Calahan, and Rachel Plitzuweit
Purpose:  The purpose of Student Council is to ensure all student voices are being heard. Student Council members approve all school wide fundraisers, plan school dances,volunteer for community events and promote school spirit. Student Council members are focused on being school wide leaders who communicate events to their homeroom classes .
Open To:  Students in Grades 6,  7, and 8 through  applications and elections at the beginning of the year

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

Advisor:  Brooke Lesniewicz
Purpose:  The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, to encourage the development of character, and to foster active citizenship in students 
Open To:  7th and 8th Grade students by invitation 
​Meeting Information:   Every other Tuesday beginning Tuesday, September 18 from 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm.
 
 

Library/iExplore Lab

Advisor:   Rachel Kelley
Purpose:   Students will be learn and help to maintain the library in order for all students to have access to the books and technology available. They will be assisting with students finding the books on the computer and the shelves. Students will also be maintaining and organizing the materials in the iExplore Lab.
​Open To:  Students in grades 5 through 8
Meeting Information:   During special area class.

 
Tinker Activity

Advisors:   Carla Guiterrez and Liz Kucera
Purpose:   Students will use robotics, Legos,  and various other materials  to solve problems and explore using STEM strategies. 
​Open To:  Students in grades 1 through 3

Video News 

Advisor:   Rachel Kelley
Purpose:   Students will write, manage, and film daily news for the ARES community. 
​Open To:  Students in grades 5 through 8
Meeting Information:   Every morning at 7:15 am.



Mustang Mentors

Advisor:   Danielle Parnell
Purpose:   Students will mentor and work with younger students to support and develop academic and social skills. 
​Open To:  Students in grades 6 through 8 through application
Meeting Information:   Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 7:55-8:15


Garden Activity

Advisor:  Jennifer Mathews and Kelly Argust 
Purpose:   Students will work in the school garden to grow plants and maintain structures. 
Meeting Information:   Every other Wednesday at 7: 15 am beginning September 19, 2018.


Literacy Alliance 

Advisor:  Brooke Lesniewicz  and Kim Yard 
Purpose:   Students will  explore creative writing, debate, and literature the opportunity to improve their abilities as writers and readers in a positive and nurturing environment.  
​Open To:  Students in grades 6 through 8

Chess Activity

Advisor:  Derrick Schnebelt
Purpose:   Students will  learn and play chess. 
Meeting Information: Tuesdays starting October 30th through March 2019 from 3:15pm - 4:15 pm.
