Welcome from the Principal

Message from the Principal

Welcome to El Mirage Elementary School!

I am excited to return for another incredibly fulfilling school year. I am originally from Detroit, Michigan. That means I am a true TIGERS fan at heart! I have been in education for more than ten years. I was a 6th-8th grade math and language arts teacher in Michigan and Arizona for 7 years. I served as a high school dean for two years, and an assistant principal at a K-8 school for two years. This is an exciting opportunity for me, and I will do my best to effectively serve our students, families, and staff. I bring two of my own children to school with me at El Mirage as a testament that I believe El Mirage is a safe and orderly community of learners.

We are embarking on a new journey this year as we go school-wide AVID. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a program that prepares our students to be college-bound and career-ready. In addition, we are starting our new signature program, the Health and Wellness Academy. This program is intended to increase the amount of physical activities our students have before, during, and after school. We will add more sports, teach nutrition, expose them to health and sports-related careers, and integrate healthy lifestyles throughout learning in the school.

The purpose of our Health & Wellness Academy is to teach students about life-long healthy habits, and to help them become well-rounded individuals, with healthy minds and bodies. In an age of technology, we aim to increase their physical activity by encouraging them to get outside and play, to eat healthy, be confident in their abilities, and not be afraid to fail and try again.

Family/School partnerships have been proven to increase student success. For example, reading with your child at home, every night, is one of the most powerful things you can do to help them succeed. Volunteering with the PTO also helps set the school up for success. Please consider donating your time for our school events, such as Kindness Carnival and Peter Piper Nights.

High expectations and support will help our students achieve more. They are capable of accomplishing their goals in life, and we are here to ensure that happens. Every decision we make is about what is best for our students. They are the reason we love teaching and making an impact on this world - one student at a time. With our families, we commit to making the 2019-2020 school year one that inspires learning and creates opportunities for all students to showcase their talents.

Respectfully Yours,
Stephanie Scott
