Student learning with circuitry

Luke Elementary School offers a personalized learning experience for all students through a relevant and challenging curriculum while meeting Arizona Academic Standards. The school provides full-day kindergarten, gifted and special education programs, and real-world, project-based learning to help prepare students for high school, college, and career.

Core Classes

In Kindergarten through 8th grade the district has adopted Math in Focus.  This Math curriculum empowers students to develop critical-thinking skills, positive attitudes, and the confidence to persevere—setting the stage for achievement.

Language Arts
In Kindergarten through 6th grade the district has adopted Journeys ~ Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  Journeys includes the key elements of reading and writing instruction.  In 7th - 8th grade the district has adopted myPerspectives by Pearson as our English Language Arts curriculum.  This program is a student centered learning environment where they will analyze texts, cite evidence, and respond critically about their learning.

In Kinder - 8th grade Dysart has adopted Discovery Education.  Discovery Science Techbook is a digital science textbook that changes the way students and teachers experience real-world science phenomena and igniting interest in the exploration of science concepts.  Built on the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate), this digital textbook is a one-stop shop, providing a mixture of resources that teachers need to bring science to life.

Social Studies
In Kindergarten through 6th grade Dysart has adopted Harcourt Brace Social Studies. In grades 7-8, Dysart has adopted Holt Reinhart and Winston.  Within these, students explore the past and present, inviting learners to tackle challenging questions about American citizenship, civics, Arizona studies, economics, geography, and history.

Electives Courses

Students entering into the 6th-8th grade for the 2021-2022 school year will now be given the opportunity to select their elective courses for specials.  This opportunity allows students to select from a variety of special area class choices.   Students will be able to select their special area courses based on their personal interests.  Our electives will run on a quarterly system, aligned with scheduled school quarters.   Students will be allowed to choose and attend 2 different electives each quarter for a total of 8 courses for the year.  The students will be required to include in their schedule one section of each of the following:  iExplore, PE,  Music, and Art.  All courses offered run the length of one quarter, with the exception of Band which is a full-year course.

Concert Band

The class will perform concerts during the semester to demonstrate their learning of such music. The daily objective of the course is to foster and promote music growth through the playing of an instrument by the student, at an appropriate level of difficulty. As the band works as a team, group effort and cooperation are necessary for a successful program. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout the course. Students are required to provide or rent their own instruments for this class. This course is a full year long.  Band students are required to fill out the band contract found at the end of the handbook.
