Meet the Principal

Mrs. Burns, Principal

Karie Burns
Principal
Surprise Elementary School

A note from the Principal

Spring has arrived, but teaching and learning are still our main priority at Surprise Elementary.

AzMERIT testing for grades 3-8 will occur throughout the month of April.  This time can be a bit stressful, but with a little preparation and forethought, it will be smooth sailing for us all.

Make sure that your children arrive to school on time every day that testing is scheduled. We will make sure your children eat a healthy Breakfast in the Classroom each day of testing.  We know that food fuels the brain. Prepare for the day the night before.  Have clothes, lunch, backpacks, etc. all ready to go.

All students must take the test, so please make sure your child is present and on time for testing. Late students will not be allowed into class until after the testing is completed for that day.  Remind your children of these tried and true test-taking tips:
Pay attention
Do not rush to finish
Always find the “best” answer

Encourage your children to do their best and help them believe they will do well.   If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact your child’s teacher.
We look forward to sharing with you your student’s success.

As the weather warms up, I would like to take this opportunity to remind students of the dress code.   If your student is missing a jacket or sweater, please remind them to take a look at our lost and found. I hope you take the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful Arizona weather!

Sincerely,
Karie Burns
