Important Safety Reminders from the Superintendent
Dysart SafeDysart Parents and Guardians,

As we near the end of the school year, I am writing to ask you to partner with us to keep our Dysart students and campuses safe and secure. Historically, as students eagerly anticipate the approach of summer, the number of school threats increases. Dysart is hoping to stem this issue with your help.

As a fellow community member, I ask you to please:

1. Have a discussion with your child(ren) about the importance of immediately sharing information that could be considered threatening to our community with a responsible adult. This could be a parent, teacher or school staff member.
2. Make it clear to your child(ren) that online threats and rumors should not be forwarded or shared, because doing so impedes police investigations.
3. Discuss with your child(ren) the seriousness of making threats toward schools, and remind them that there are a number of charges that can be filed against students – including felony offenses.

If you become aware of an immediate threat, please call 911.  Otherwise, call law enforcement non-emergency lines to report potential threats towards our schools or the community in Surprise (623-222-4000), El Mirage (623-933-1341) or Maricopa County (602-876-1602).

Another option for reporting school safety issues or concerns is through our Safe Schools Hotline (623-876-7009) or online via Dysart Safe Report at Dysart.org/SafeReport. Additional information, resources, and school safety tips can be found on our website at Dysart.org/Safety.

Dysart is proud of our relationships with local law enforcement agencies, and works collaboratively with them to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  We all have a responsibility to be vigilant and should strive to prioritize the well-being of our community. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our campuses are always a safe place for our students.

Respectfully,

Quinn R. Kellis, Ed.D.

New Social Worker
Dear Families,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.  I am Megan Garza Griswold, the Social Worker here at Sunset Hills Elementary.  I am a part of a new district program designed to work with students, families, and staff by facilitating social and emotional learning (SEL) in order to help the students achieve their greatest academic potential and success. I will have many opportunities to interact with your child(ren) in multiple settings as the program gets up and running.

I want your child to be as successful as possible at school. As you know, success in school is not just about reading and math. It is also about knowing how to learn and how to get along with others.
Additionally, I will be working to get families connected with resources from our community partners.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at megan.griswold@dysart.org and 623-523-8700.

I look forward to working with you and your family.

Sincerely,
Megan Garza Griswold

New Arrival Procedures
Dear Parents and Guardians,

Sunset Hills prides itself on being a true community school, nestled in the middle of the Sierra Montana neighborhood.  We have nearly 1,100 student who will walk, ride bikes, or be brought to campus each day!

Student safety continues to be a priority.  After reviewing our current morning procedure we have found the need to implement a new arrival procedure.  This new procedure will consist of two drop off zones, one for grades K-2 and one for grades 3-8. Cones and signs will be strategically placed to support this new process.  Staff will also be present to guide traffic.

The new arrival procedure will begin on Monday, October 22, 2018.  In an effort to plan for the best supervision of our students, we ask that all parents and students follow the new procedures.

Morning arrival procedure (see attached map):
  • Enter the drop off lane from Spring Lane
  • Once you enter, you may choose:
    • Right lane is for 3rd - 8th grade student drop off.
    • Left lane is for Kinder - 2nd grade student drop off.
    • Please note that if you have students in multiple grade levels, you may choose to enter either lane.
  • Once you are in the drop off zone, you may have your child exit the vehicle on the curbside only.  Continue to pull forward until staff guides you to exit the lane.
  • Remain in your vehicle at all times.  If you should need to exit for any reason, please park in the parking lot and escort your child across the crosswalk.
  • Staff will direct traffic between the two drop-off zones and crosswalk. Please carefully follow staff instructions when merging into or out of your drop-off lane.
  • Beginning at 8:00 AM, vehicles at curb must be actively unloading students, no waiting/parking is allowed after 8:00.
  • Staff will be present to encourage cars to pull forward and avoid unsafe drop-offs. Please follow staff direction.

Safety Reminders:
  • Students are to be dropped off in the drop off zone only (they must exit to the right along the curbside)
  • Please be aware of the “No drop off zones” listed on the map
  • We will have staff strategically placed to guide traffic along the drop off lane.

We appreciate your patience as we implement this new arrival procedure.  Thank you for your continued support with the safety of our students and families at Sunset Hills.
