Dear Families of Sunset Hills,

Dysart Unified School District has revised the reopening plan for students to return to in person learning.  From the beginning of our school year, we have had a very successful phase in approach.  We started with welcoming staff back to campus, then students in our learning labs, and most recently we welcomed back our Preschool students.  We currently have all staff members, Learning Lab and preschool students on campus each day.  We are so excited to continue the transition back to school with K-4 students coming back on September 14, and our 5-8 grade students on September 21.  Below is important information to review as we near the reopening of Sunset Hills.

Updated Timeline:
  • September 14:  Students in grades K-4 return to in-person learning; 5-8 grade students who are currently enrolled in the learning lab will stay in the learning lab, with the last day being September 18.
  • September 21:  All students in grades 5-8 return to in-person learning; Learning Labs are closed.

Health and Safety Routines and Processes:
  • All students will receive 2 temperature checks daily with a touchless thermometer.
  • To reduce office visits and limit front office traffic, please ensure your child is bringing all necessary items to school (i.e. homework, projects, instruments, lunch etc.)
  • There will be a Pre- K-8 soft start; students will go directly into their classrooms in the morning.
  • Classroom supplies will not be shared; students will have individual supplies.  Teachers will send their updated supply list in a separate email and these will be posted on our website.
  • Masks are required per Maricopa County guidelines.
  • Hand washing will occur a minimum every 2 hours.
  • Students must wash/sanitize hands before lunch and after recess.
  • No visitors will be allowed to eat lunch with students.
  • No volunteers/visitors will be allowed on campus at this time.
  • COVID-19 Safety Protocols will be followed.

Morning Entrance Locations:
  • Doors and Gates open at 8:00 a.m.

Schooling Options:
  • Due to the in-person learning timeline change, Sunset Hills families may make a change to their classroom learning format (in person to iSchool OR iSchool to in person).  Please email Ashley Walkenbach ([email protected]) if your child is in K-4 grade or Shelly Paxman ([email protected]) if your child is in 5-8 grade.
  • iSchool students will work independently at their own pace, teachers will no longer be able to teach on camera, but will be available to provide assistance to students.  Teachers will be communicating the time they are available to check in with iSchool students.  It is vital that iSchool students complete all components of each module.

Teacher Communication:
  • Teachers will continue to email families on a weekly basis.  This may include, but is not limited to the following:
    • Updated schedules
    • Suggested school supply list
    • Special area class information
    • Curriculum updates
    • Special announcements

We are so excited to welcome students back to campus!  We look forward to continuing to work with you during this transition and supporting our amazing students!

Sincerely,
Joey Tokhi, Principal
