Clubs and Activities 2021-2022 School Year 

Student Council
Advisors:  Rachel Plitzuweit and Katelyn Erickson 
Purpose: This is a student leadership group for grades 5-8 who work to promote school spirit and student voices in decision making.   
Meeting Times: Varies
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
 Advisor:  Tricha Borland
Purpose:  The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, to encourage the development of character, and to foster active citizenship in students. 
Students Who Can Participate: NJHS is for students who are inducted in grades 7 and 8. 
Meeting Information:   Varies -dates will be announced on Morning Announcements 
Applications for candidacy will be available December 2021
National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS)
Advisor:  Allison Hinojosa and Jamie Mullins 
Purpose:  The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, to encourage the development of character, and to foster active citizenship in students. 
Students Who Can Participate: NEHS is for students who are inducted in grades 4-6.

Art Club 
Advisor:  Erica Wolford and Karen Worthen 
Purpose:  A  art club with a focus on a new medium each week. The club will focus on creating pieces related to the season and curating creative minds by exposing young artists to new creative methods each week!
Students Who Can Participate: 3rd-5th Grade 
​Meeting Information:  Every Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 from September 29th- November 7th

Tinker Crew
Advisors:  Noelle Downs, Alicia Mullins
Purpose:   Students will use robotics, Legos,  and various other materials to solve problems and explore using STEM strategies.  
Students Who Can Participate: The crew is open to students in grades 1-6.
Meeting Information:  September 15- December 8,  Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00 (no meeting on October 13 or November 24 due to school holidays)

All Things Anime Club
Advisor: Ashlee Copper
Purpose:  To learn about  food, language, culture, art, manga, and anime.
Meeting Times: First meeting date tentatively set to Thursday, August 29th at 3:15pm in room 236. Meetings will be held in person 1-2 times per month.

Advisors: Kimberly Tavaghoee
Purpose:   Help preserve our school memories by creating our school yearbook. In Yearbook, middle school students have the opportunity to design, take photographs for, promote, and sell the Asante yearbook. This is a year-long commitment.
Students Who Can Participate: 6th-8th grade 
Meeting Information: Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15

KPop Club 
Purpose:  Welcome  to Kpop Club, everyone! For people who are unfamiliar with Kpop, it stands for Korean pop culture. Club members will explore a new culture, food, dances, songs, and the Korean language itself. Groups include, but not limited to, BTS and Blackpink. The club also provides a safe place and opportunity for people with similar interests to interact with each other and meet some new friends.
Students Who Can Participate: 3rd -8th grade

Science Olympiad 
Advisors: Erin Dodson 
Brief Description:  Students involved in the Science Olympiad will learn to work with a team, applying the knowledge they learn in various branches of science to create and compete against other teams.
Students Who Can Participate:  5th-8th grade
Dates:  September-March, Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15-4:00 PM

Strategic Gaming Club 
Advisors: Kimberly Tavaghoee 
Brief Description: We will explore a variety of table-top games that focus on strategy and skill, such as Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, D&D, and more. The Strategic Gaming Club is a fun and interactive way to build confidence, social skills, and sportsmanship. Note: this is for table games only, not video games.
Students Who Can Participate:  6th-8th grade
Dates:  Every other Thursday starting September 2nd from 3:15-4:15

Robotics and STEM Club
Advisor:  Tracy Anderson 
Purpose:   Students will work and STEM challenges to solve real problems and will compete in a regional competition.
Students Who Can Participate: 5th-8th grade

Walk it and Talk it
Advisors: Mikenna Radke and Vanessa Glueck 
Purpose: Holy Walkamolie you picked the right club to join! Come with us to get your walka walka on! Students will be engaging in physical activity and building friendships with peers through team building activities.

Asante Mentors
Advisors: Eva Rodriguez and Sarah Rosenthal 
Purpose: Students who want to help and assist our younger learners during the morning before school starts from 7:55-8:15.  They will get a chance to read with them or work on skills. 
Students Who Can Participate: 4th-8th grade 
Meeting Information: Check morning announcements  the week of 8/16 for applications.  Mentoring  runs through the year. 


Pickleball Club 
Advisors:  Chad Plesko, Rachel Plitzuweit and Emily Dean 
Purpose:   Students will explore the game of Pickleball and work on skills and game competition.  
Students Who Can Participate: Grades 4th-8th 
Meeting Information: Weekly on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15 from October 25th to December 7th (No meeting on November 25th.)
