Community Invited to Donate on Tax Credit Tuesday
The Dysart Unified School District invites the community to drop off their tax credit donations on “Tax Credit Tuesday”.  The event will take place on Tuesday, December 3 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Nathaniel Dysart Education Center, 15802 North Parkview Place, Surprise, and free tacos will be available for those that donate.  Staff will be on hand to explain the program and share how tax credit donations are used. Donations will be accepted on-site via check, or computers will be available to make online donations using credit or debit cards.

Arizona Law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows married couples filing jointly a tax credit of up to $400 and individual taxpayers a tax credit of up to $200 when they contribute to public schools. This tax credit is available to anyone who resides in Arizona.  Donations may be submitted through April 15 annually.

Contributions are donated directly to the schools, and all donations are used to support extracurricular activities for students or approved capital expenditures at the Dysart school of your choice.  Donors may designate where their donation will go by selecting from four categories - Athletics, Fine Arts, Enrichment Programs, or School May Designate. We appreciate the support of our schools and students through the tax credit program.

For more information, or to give online at anytime, visit Dysart.org/TaxCredit or call 623-876-7056.

Dysart to Begin Open Enrollment Dec. 3
The Dysart Unified School District is proud to offer our community a choice in school enrollment. Dysart will begin accepting open enrollment applications for the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.  Parents or guardians who would like their child to attend a school outside of their residential attendance boundary for the 2020-2021 school year, must apply for open enrollment online at www.dysart.org/oe.

Parents whose students are currently open enrolled at the school of their choice will not need to reapply. However, open enrollment status is evaluated annually based on capacity and the student’s grades, discipline, and attendance.

Open enrollment allows parents the opportunity to request that their children attend a Dysart school outside of their residential boundary area. This includes all 20 Dysart elementary schools, including the new Freedom Traditional Academy, and four high schools. Information on K-8 signature programs and academies may be found by visiting www.dysart.org/signature. Details about high school focuses and Career and Technical Education programs offered are available at www.Dysart.org/highschool

Open enrollment applications are due on or before January 5, 2020.  After this priority period, submitted applications will continue to be accepted and will be reviewed on a monthly basis as capacity becomes available.

Parents needing access to a computer to complete the open enrollment application may visit any district school or the front lobby of the Dysart District Office, located at 15802 N Parkview Place, Surprise, AZ 85374.

November 5 Election Results
The Dysart Unified School District is extremely fortunate to have dedicated parents, staff, and community members who have worked hard to inform the community about the educational needs of our Dysart schools. Unfortunately, both the bond and override measures on the ballot were not approved.

The override measure would have secured continued funding for many programs already in place. The funding would have ensured that Dysart can continue to recruit and retain highly qualified staff to maintain manageable class sizes; continue to offer a free full-day Kindergarten; maintain our arts, athletics and physical education programs; and provide math and reading support to students.

The override funding currently in place for these programs from a 2015 override election is still in place at 100% through the 2020-2021 school year. If funding is not approved prior to the 2021-2022 school year, the override funding will begin phasing out, and cuts will need to be made to balance the budget.

The bond funding would have helped ensure the safety and security of our schools, and provided much-needed school and site improvements. We will continue to maintain our fleet of busses, but will not be able to replace our oldest vehicles at this time. Despite anticipated growth, we must delay the construction of two new elementary schools and will not yet be able to purchase land for a high school.

We will not be dissuaded by the low voter turnout, and believe that there is more support for the bond and override than the vote reflects. We will be back next year to again seek community support for these much needed funds.

We appreciate our community and will continue to provide extraordinary opportunities at each of our schools.
