Important Safety Reminders from the Superintendent
Dysart SafeDysart Parents and Guardians,

As we near the end of the school year, I am writing to ask you to partner with us to keep our Dysart students and campuses safe and secure. Historically, as students eagerly anticipate the approach of summer, the number of school threats increases. Dysart is hoping to stem this issue with your help.

As a fellow community member, I ask you to please:

1. Have a discussion with your child(ren) about the importance of immediately sharing information that could be considered threatening to our community with a responsible adult. This could be a parent, teacher or school staff member.
2. Make it clear to your child(ren) that online threats and rumors should not be forwarded or shared, because doing so impedes police investigations.
3. Discuss with your child(ren) the seriousness of making threats toward schools, and remind them that there are a number of charges that can be filed against students – including felony offenses.

If you become aware of an immediate threat, please call 911.  Otherwise, call law enforcement non-emergency lines to report potential threats towards our schools or the community in Surprise (623-222-4000), El Mirage (623-933-1341) or Maricopa County (602-876-1602).

Another option for reporting school safety issues or concerns is through our Safe Schools Hotline (623-876-7009) or online via Dysart Safe Report at Dysart.org/SafeReport. Additional information, resources, and school safety tips can be found on our website at Dysart.org/Safety.

Dysart is proud of our relationships with local law enforcement agencies, and works collaboratively with them to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  We all have a responsibility to be vigilant and should strive to prioritize the well-being of our community. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our campuses are always a safe place for our students.

Respectfully,

Quinn R. Kellis, Ed.D.
Superintendent

SkillsUSA Competitors
Mountain View Elementary School is the first K-8 school in the district to participate at the state level for SkillsUSA.  The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the state and nation.  Eight MVS 7th and 8th grade students competed at the Arizona State competition in the following categories:

Job Skill Demonstration: Contestants demonstrate and explain an entry-level skill used in the occupational area for which they are training.  Competitors must demonstrate a career objective in an occupational area that is included in one of the contest areas of the SkillsUSA Championships.

Prepared Speech: Contestants must deliver a five- to seven-minute speech on a common theme established by SkillsUSA for the current school year.  Contestants are evaluated on their ability to present thoughts relating to the central theme clearly and effectively, and are rated on voice, mechanics, and platform deportment.

Promotional Bulletin Board:  Contestants create bulletin board displays based on the annual SkillsUSA theme.  The bulletin boards promote SkillsUSA, career and technical education, and related occupational information.  Contestants also create an accompanying notebook that documents the development and construction of the bulletin board and give an oral presentation to explain the process, purpose, and educational value.

Maija Larson and Joshua Valenzuela earned gold medals in Job Skills Demonstration, while Skylar Nelson and Ryland Durham earned silver medals.  Alan Rivera, Stephen Campbell, and Myron Jordan-Davis brought home gold for their Promotional Bulletin Board.  And finally, Mark Tudor won gold for his prepared speech.

All the students who earned gold medals qualify to compete at the SkillsUSA National Championship that will be held this summer in Kentucky.  The judges and state level representatives were highly impressed with our students and their skills.  As advisors, Mrs. O'Donnell and Mrs. Lopez are beyond proud of their accomplishments.

Congratulations, SkillsUSA Team!

Student and Parent STEAM Survey
Hello, Mountain Lions! Principal Miller would love to get feedback from all of you on how you feel about S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education here at Mountain View.  Students were given a hard copy of our survey earlier this week in their folders.  But did you know that you can complete the form electronically as well?  The survey is only three questions long.  We are excited to see the responses!

Complete the survey online.
