Freedom Traditional Academy to begin accepting applications
DYSART SCHOOLS - The Dysart Unified School District is excited to announce we will be accepting priority open enrollment applications for the new Freedom Traditional Academy starting January 9 for the 2019-2020 school year.  Open enrollment applications are due on or before January 25. After this priority period, submitted applications will continue to be accepted and will be reviewed on a monthly basis as capacity becomes available. Parents or guardians who would like their child to attend the new Freedom Traditional Academy for the 2019-2020 school year must apply for open enrollment online at www.dysart.org/oe.

The academy will be accepting applications for all students living in and out of the Dysart Unified School District boundaries.  Students will be selected for enrollment based on past grades, attendance, and discipline records.

The traditional academy will stress basic educational practices and expect mastery of academic learning in the core subjects of math, reading, writing, science, and social studies through teacher-centered delivery of instruction.

While the parent guild and new academy leadership, including principal Connie Wolford, are developing the curriculum, it’s anticipated focus will be a disciplined, back-to-basics approach. Students will receive performance level art and music, as well as physical education, but reading, writing, and mathematics will be the focus with a strong emphasis on science and social studies.  The academy will also house a traditional library and have more parent involvement.

The Freedom Traditional Academy will be rooted in historical and patriotic themes and include flag ceremonies to instill civic values aimed at community participation.

The Freedom Traditional Academy will be located at 16066 N Parkview Place, Surprise, AZ 85374.  For more information on the academy, please visit www.dysart.org/freedom.
