SRHS Architecture wins NAHB competition
DYSART SCHOOLS-The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Student Chapter at Shadow Ridge High School won first place in the Secondary Degree programs architecture category of the NAHB Student Competition held during the 2020 NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, Jan. 21-23.

Sixty teams representing universities, community colleges, high schools and career technical schools across the U.S. participated in the annual competition.

“Congratulations to the NAHB Student Chapter at Shadow Ridge High School for all their hard work,” said NAHB CEO Jerry Howard. “It is really encouraging to see the great talent and creativity this next generation of the housing industry brings to the table.”

During the competition, students solve real-life construction management problems and present their solutions to a judging panel of residential construction industry experts.

“2020 marks the third consecutive year that the NAHB Student Chapter Team from Shadow Ridge High School’s Signature Architecture Program has won the Architecture Track NAHB Student Design Championship in the secondary contest level. We are proud to set a new standard of excellence and to be demonstrating industry-level workplace and employability skills,” said SRHS’s NAHB Advisor, Scott Thomas, M.E.d, MCCTE, CD.

“The NAHB Student Advisory Board is proud that the competition continues to be a significant and highly competitive event for the participants, their schools and the building industry,” said Heather Gay, faculty member at Dunwoody College of Technology and chairwoman of the NAHB Student Chapters Advisory Board.

“Students put in a tremendous amount of time and energy preparing for the competition. The judges were very impressed with this year’s group, and we expect once again that the participants will be highly sought after when it comes to job offers,” said competition consultant, Kerry Slattery, Ph.D., Slattery Consulting.
