Superintendent Search

The Dysart Unified School District Governing Board is seeking applicants for Superintendent. Candidates must have the background, skills and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. Requirements include three (3) years of experience as a District Superintendent, and/or Assistant or Associate Superintendent of a rapidly growing urban or suburban unified school district; a doctorate from an accredited institution; possession of or ability to obtain Arizona Superintendent certification; and ability to obtain or maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC). Search Process Timeline

May 25, 2022 - Governing Board directed district administration to conduct an in-house Superintendent search


July 5, 2022 - Application process opened


August 8, 2022 - Deadline to submit applications; Community survey opens for parents, students, staff and the community to provide feedback on the characteristics they desire in a new Superintendent.


August 22, 2022 - Community survey closed


August 25, 2022 - Governing Board Executive Session to discuss and consider applicants, review interview questions, structure and process


September 22, 2022 - Finalist in-person interviews with the Governing Board and a panel of constituents representing the district


October 6, 2022 - Governing Board Executive Session to discuss the finalists. The Board voted to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Jim Dean for the position of Superintendent


October 27, 2022 - Governing Board voted to approve the new superintendent contract

About Dysart Schools

Dysart has been serving the Northwest Phoenix Metropolitan community since 1920, and now serves nearly 24,000 pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students.  The district encompasses 140 square miles, serving parts of El Mirage, Glendale, Surprise, Youngtown, and Maricopa County.  The district is home to four K-4 elementary schools, four middle schools serving grades 5-8, 12 K-8 elementary schools, four comprehensive high schools, a preschool, and one alternative program.
