Dysart High School truly values the skills, passion, and perspective that art provides to our students. We offer visual arts (painting, drawing, and ceramics) and performing arts (band and theater). We now have six 2D arts classes, and have increased the number of Art Seal recipients, having at least one in each of our Arts programs.
2-D Visual Arts
Students explore drawing, painting and mixed-media techniques. Students will focus on technical skills, critical thinking and problem solving within their art, as well as developing their own style.
3-D Visual Arts
Students will learn functional and sculptural forms using hand building methods. Wheel throwing and mold making will be introduced. A variety of clay bodies, glazes, decorative techniques and firing methods will be used.
Students will study, rehearse, and perform various styles of music. Students will learn ear training, tone production, intonation and instrument techniques through various genres. Marching Band and Color Guard are additional ensembles.
This is a course for beginning students with no previous experience, as well as for students with minimal experience on the guitar. An acoustic guitar is provided, and neither electric guitars nor amps will be allowed. Students will learn to read music, learn basic chords, finger picking, and will perform in a guitar ensemble.
In piano, students will learn to read music, compose simple songs, chord progressions, ensemble music, and a wide range of musical genres. A keyboard is provided for use during class. Students will be expected to perform for the teacher, as well as in a public setting for the class, as it is a performance based class. A concert performance will be given at the end of the year.
Students focus on professional skills including performance, movement, critical analysis, dance, and dialects. Stagecraft Design and Production is available for students interested in working behind the scenes.
