OVERVIEW

Luke Elementary School is committed to providing an extraordinary academic experience. Luke Educators use the Arizona State Standards to plan for rigorous instruction, utilizing effective engagement strategies while ensuring that all students are progressing through the standards. In addition, Luke Educators work as cohesive Professional Learning Communities to collaborate on upcoming standards, reviewing data from assessments and make adjustments to ensure student success.

Mathematics

For grades K-3, Dysart Schools use Florida Virtual, Math in Focus and Illustrative Mathematics for instruction. Students develop their skills in counting, operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations, fractions, measurement/data, and geometry. For grades 4-8, we use the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum delivered by Imagine Learning (4-5) or McGraw Hill (6-8). Students construct mathematical knowledge by actively engaging in authentic math tasks which connect and deepen prior knowledge.

Language Arts

Dysart schools use 95 Percent Group Phonics, HMH Into Reading, Florida Virtual, CommonLit, HMH Journeys, and SAVVAS myPerspectives to develop literacy skills in Phonological awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. Students develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking, and language use as described in the state standards for each grade level.

Science

Dysart schools use Discovery Science Tech book curriculum, as well as Generation Genius and Mystery Science. Students actively participate in science practices, and look through the lens of cross cutting concepts, as they explore the content described in the state standards for each grade level.

Social Studies

Dysart Schools use the Florida Virtual, McGraw Hill Networks, and Discovery Education curriculums for the instruction of Social Studies. Students engage in inquiry based instruction where they explore the various content described in the state standards for each grade level.

PRESCHOOL

The Dysart Unified School District Preschool Program offers a developmental approach to learning which includes art, music, motor, pre-literacy and readiness activities for both typically developing students and students with identified needs.

Physical Education

Students will develop skills, knowledge, and dispositions to lead physically active lives. Physical Education class will include age and physically-appropriate activities centered around fitness activities, sports, health science, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Students will utilize various locomotor and non-locomotor skills to build coordination and balance. Students will learn skills related to lifetime activities including how to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, movement and how it impacts the human body, the rules, tactics, strategies, and etiquette of games and sports.
