Riverview is committed to giving students the opportunity to explore the arts both during and outside of the regular school day. As a community of developing leaders, students at Riverview are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning at all grade levels, whether in general music and arts courses, in middle school electives, and through optional after-school enrichment activities.
Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade receive instruction in general music as part of their specials area class rotations. The general music is designed to foster greater understanding and appreciation through awareness and hands-on music techniques. Students attend each special area class for a week at a time. Students in 6th through 8th grade have the opportunity to select two electives per quarter. Offerings include Piano, Drumming, and Guitar.
Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade receive instruction in visual arts as part of their specials area class rotations. Students in 6th through 8th grade have the opportunity to select two electives per quarter. All students must take at least one course in the arts (music, art, or band). For the 22-23 school year, Introduction to Art, Drawing, Painting, 2D and 3D Multimedia, Cartooning, and Arts and Crafts are offered as electives.
Students in 5th through 8th grade have the opportunity to participate in a year-long band course. Students who choose to enroll in Band commit to taking band for the full year. Band takes the place of one elective each quarter. Students have the opportunity to build musical skills and perform at multiple performances each year.
Students may choose to extend their exploration of the arts through participation in the Riverview Choir, Yearbook Club, Photography Club, Art Club, Drama Club, or Pops Band.
