West Point provides an arts enriched learning environment theat inspires exceptional performance through authentic and realistic learning experiences in a safe and positive environment.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

Dance & Movement

Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade are provided the opportunity to participate in dance class as one of their special areas. Whether learning basic movement and technique or participating in advanced performances, students learn to appreciate and practice many styles and genres. Our dance room is unique to an elementary school and just one way that students are provided opportunities to participate in the performing arts.

Theater

Students in 5th - 8th grade may select theater as an elective. Course material allows them to learn acting techniques and the basics of theater, both on and off the stage. Classes are offered for beginning and advanced theater students. Advanced theater students write and produce their own one act play.

Visual Arts

Kindergarten through 8th grade students have the opportunity to take art as a special area class. Older students in 5th - 8th grade may select an art specialty, including drawing, painting, clay, art history, and fiber arts. West Point has many award winning artists including the City of Surprise Martin Luther King Jr. Poster Contest winner, Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show winner, and the Friends of Surprise Library Bookmark Content winners.

Music

Music is an intrical part of the performing arts at West Point. While all students have the opportunity to participate in a music class, 5th - 8th grade students may select from a variety of music classes. These include piano keyboarding, bucket drumming, ukulele, world drumming, choir, and mallets. Performances are planned for the end of each quarter as a student’s end of quarter project.

Band & String Orchestra

Fifth through 8th grade students at West Point have a unique opportunity to participate in either band or string orchestra. Not only do students practice daily as a grade level group, they have many opportunities through the year to play as a middle school band and orchestra ensemble. Performances include community concerts, volunteer performances, or storming the halls to promote school spirit.

Arts Academy

The West Point Arts Academy proudly serves students from all around the Dysart Unified School District. The belief is that the arts are conducive to powerful learning and that increasing the presence of the arts in all subjects will increase motivation, relevance, and achievement for students.
