School Leadership

Kara Sehr

Dear Luke Families,

It is my privilege to serve as your principal for the 2023-2024 school year, it is truly an honor.  Luke is an incredible school - we have the very best students, amazing families and our community is like none-other!  This past year, we worked hard to become ONE Team with ONE Mission and we did just that! This year will be my fifth year with the Dysart Unified School District.  I have been in school leadership for 13 years, serving as an Assistant Principal for 8 years and Director of STEM and Assessment for 3 years.  Prior to leadership, I taught Kindergarten and 7th Grade Math Teacher and was a Math Interventionist and Instructional Coach.  I am fortunate to be named as part of Luke’s talented team. I was born and raised in Michigan.  I attended Western Michigan University and moved to Arizona a week after I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  I obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Principal Certificate from Northern Arizona University. My husband recently retired from the Air Force Reserves at Luke Air Force Base, after serving as a Firefighter for 23 years.  We live in Surprise with our daughter, son and three golden retrievers.  We enjoy the outdoors and spend our winters hiking the White Tank Mountains and playing at the parks and our summers swimming and playing family games.   The 2023-2024 school year will be the best!  I look forward to continuing to have high expectations for ALL and working together to help your child achieve their dreams!

Sincerely,

Kara Sehr, Principal

Dear Jet Community,

I am so honored and excited to join the Jet family as your assistant principal for the 2023-2024 school year! I am eager to work alongside the students, families, and staff at Luke Elementary.  I’m a native to Arizona, earning my undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and my Masters in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. While this is my first year in the Dysart Unified School District, I have served as a public educator for the last 13 years, four of which have been in school leadership. Prior to coming to Dysart, I worked within the Littleton Elementary School District and Peoria Unified School District, serving as an Assistant Principal, K-12 English Language Arts Content Coach, and English teacher. My time in the classroom was primarily in grades 8th-12th in both a traditional classroom setting, as well as an alternative high school setting. I am a firm believer that all children are capable of success–no exceptions!   In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters. We love to make baked goods, try new recipes, and enjoy the outdoors. More than anything, my family serves as my “why” and my inspiration to be a better educator.   I look forward to serving the Luke community; it is a privilege that I will not take lightly. I am confident that we can make this school year a successful one by working together and keeping our students at the center of all that we do. Go Jets!     Sincerely,

Cara Miller, Assistant Principal
