Homework & Assignment Guidelines

Homework/Assignments

Homework is assigned to reinforce daily learning activities, as well as help each student with time management, personal responsibility, study skills development, and fostering independent

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday with the exception of completing long-term assignments.  Daily homework is due at the beginning of the next school day for K-6 students and at the beginning of each class period for 7th and 8th grade students.

Daily Homework Guidelines

The average daily guidelines for homework are:

  • K - 2nd Grade: 15-30 minutes per day
  • 3rd - 5th Grade: 30-50 minutes per day
  • 6th - 8th Grade: 60-80 minutes per day

K-8 students will have daily math and reading homework.  In addition, students are expected to spend a minimum of 15 minutes of daily reading. The student may be read to, may read silently, or may read to parents or others in the home.

Absent and Late Work

When a student is absent, classwork will be provided upon his/her return and the student will be provided one day for each day missed to make up any missed work, not including long-term assignments.  For absences exceeding three days, parents may request classwork at the time the call is made to report the child’s absence. Please allow teachers 24 hours to compile necessary materials and assignments. The classwork can be picked-up in the school office after 3:00 p.m. the following day.

Late work procedures will vary by grade level. Please consult with your child’s teacher regarding their grade level procedures on late work.

Long-term Assignments (assigned more than one week in advance)

Examples of long-term assignments include, but are not limited to, book reports, poems/recitations, science projects, research papers, and current events. Failure to turn in a long-term assignment by the due date shall result in a failing grade (59%) for students at all grade levels.

When a student is absent, long-term assignments are due at the beginning of class the first day the student returns.
